Nature & Recration

Amstelveen is truly surrounded by nature. We are proud of the lovely Amsterdamse Bos. The Amstel is around the corner, with the pittoresk Ouderkerk aan de Amstel.

Uithoon has an old fort that's worth a visit but to recreate you can also go to the Ouderkerkeplas, where on a hot summer day, you'll find big family's trowing BBQ's and party's.

The water is suitable for a swim and there is a kids playground.

Amsterdamse Bos

A few nice places to chill with or without kids is de Kleine Speelvijver en de Grote Speelvijver. At de Grote Speelvijver, you can rent Canoe's.

Geitenboerderij De Rimmerdamhoeve, is the place to be if you want to eat pancakes, feed goats or walk through a real life labyrinth, or buy some great biological Goat Cheese. Also their is a great garden to play fort kids and the animals in the farm are always a cute scenery for pictures.

Broersepark

The Broersepark is small but it is often very quiet. Next to the park is the Mill, Rastaurant De Dikkert and the surrounding villa's have beautiful gardens.

In the park, among others, azaleas, magnolia's and astilbes grow.

The park is well maintained and has been old-fashioned with tropical birds and ducks and peacocks. In the ponds live wild American red turtles and waterfowl.

There is also a monument to victims of the Second World War in Dutch Indie.

De Ronde Hoep

The Ronde Hoep polder is a quiet area south of Ouderkerk on the Amstel.

The polder is surrounded by cattle rivers, making this polder one of Randstad's most beautiful peat polders.

In the middle of the polder there is a meadow area and if you really want to enjoy this polder you will take the bicycle and bicycle from the north to the south to avoid the high-rise of Amsterdam-Zuidoost. The dike twists properly; You immediately feel as if you ate in the countryside. In short, "an oasis of rest" for the true rest and nature lover.

Middelpolder

The Middelpolder is a beautiful quiet area that is very popular with pasture birds. Some of this polder has been redesigned a number of years ago and you can notice that; New cycling, hiking and riding trails.

This polder is easily accessible by walking and cycling routes from Amstelveen and via Ouderkerk on the Amstel.

In short: nice area to relax.

Jac P. Thijssepark

There are two entrees; One next to Julianaschool and one at the beginning of the Emmakade in Amstelveen.

The park can be admired during all seasons. In the spring everything is blooming and there are also excursions that explain a lot about the history of the park and what is happening at the moment.

Definitely recommended for the true nature lover!

De Braak

Park "De Braak" is actually an elongated heather garden.

It is located in the north west corner of Amstelveen along the Amsterdamseweg.

Many native plants, as well as the Jac. P. Thijssepark, got a place here.

The construction of the park started at the end of the 1930s and was also used as a job creation project for many unemployed during that time. There are two entrances on the north side, two on the west side and one on the east side.

This park was at the base of the Amstelveen hemp market tradition. In 2011 this park became even a national monument.

There is also a nursery "Open" from monday to friday during working hours. In a separate corner of the nursery is a herb garden.

The heart of this park is formed by a large water pond. There are several bushes and stumbling blocks in the park, a heathland, reedlands and many wooden bridges over water.

An excellent period to see "De Braak" is April to June.

Ouderkerkeplas - Ouderkerk aan de Amstel

On and around this recreational pool there are plenty of opportunities to relax.

You can swim, surf, hike and cycle. You can even camp from April to September from dawn to dusk.

Throughout the year you will find many species of birds. In winter months there are winters, slobbers and cracks. From the observation huts you can watch the birds well.

Because the water of the Ouderkerkerplas is a little salt and in the middle the pond is quite deep, the risk of freezing is very small.

For example, the birds can win well and get enough energy for their return trip.

Speelboerderij Elsenhove

The play farm is a combination of a petting zoo with an adventurous and natural playground, the fulfillment of a children's wish ...

All kinds of farm animals, a large adventure and natural playground and the opportunity to learn a lot about nature, the environment and sustainability. Playground Elsenhove is wonderful for children and adults. It is also an excellent starting point for bike rides and walks through the Elsenhove recreation area, the Middelpolder, the Amstelland green area and the Groene Hart.
